How online lending companies harass me with death messages – Delta resident

A Delta State resident has shouted that some online lending companies have sent death messages to his phone and threatened to declare him wanted as a fraudster if he does not pay them back.

The victim, who requested anonymity due to the threats he had received, said the loan companies also contacted his family members saying he was a scammer, who escaped with their money.

The man, a wage earner from Delta State, told SaharaReporters on Sunday that he borrowed money from virtual financial institutions when his salary was delayed.

He said: ‘What really happened was that my bank account was hacked. You know all these online loan applications, you have to submit your details and your bank verification number (BVN) to them. I just saw that the money disappeared from my account and I confronted them about what happened.

“They didn’t respond. I also notified my bank. It happened last month, in July. I couldn’t pay them. I defaulted. I sent them an email. I told them about my conditions, but they just didn’t act or didn’t care. They started sending messages to all my contacts saying that I had scammed them. I was shocked when my mother called me from the village. Then I was just seeing different debit alerts coming from them.

He told SaharaReporters that the companies started deducting his money without him seeing any debit alerts until he consulted with his bank officials who tracked them down.

“I have to pay Fast Money N21,000 plus while Sokoloan is N19,000. The amount must have increased due to my inability to repay when due. They added penalties, but they still dishonored me for the money that I will still pay,” he added.

“Thereupon they threatened to die a painful death. They said they were going to declare me wanted by the police and all kinds of defamatory messages. Even, they become witty by sending curses and insults in the name of gods and jazz,” he lamented.

“These are some of the messages I received from them, ‘IF WE DON’T GET OUR MONEY BACK NOW VIA APP/TRANSFER, AJAGUWA WILL KEEP CURSING YOU, YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR CONTACTS VIA CALLS, SMS AND WHATSAPP EVERY NOW …

“IN ORDER TO TAKE YOUR MESS FURTHER AND MAKE YOUR LIFE MORE MISERAL, WE GO DEEPER BY USING YAGUNGUN TO CALLING AND CURSE YOUR FAMILY AND CONTACTS BY 12:00 PM…

“BELOW IS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY (DOGS) LUNCH

“WHERE YOU ARE NOW, YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL DIE A MISERATE/PAINFUL DEATH WITH YOUR BROKEN HANDS AND LEGS… laaisaisa iku ebaiba…”

When SaharaReporters called a number belonging to one of the loan companies, it was cut off.
